Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Bitcoin vanity addresses and our service.

Bitcoin Basics

What is a Bitcoin address?

A Bitcoin address is a unique identifier that functions like a bank account number, allowing you to receive Bitcoin. It consists of a string of alphanumeric characters, usually starting with the number "1" (for legacy addresses) or "bc1" (for newer SegWit addresses).

Each Bitcoin address is derived from a private key, which is used to control the funds sent to that address. Anyone who knows the private key has control over the Bitcoin associated with that address.

What's the difference between a public key and a private key?

In Bitcoin's cryptographic system:

  • Private Key: A secret number that allows you to spend Bitcoin from your wallet. Think of it as the password to your bank account. Never share your private key with anyone.
  • Public Key: Derived from the private key through a one-way cryptographic function. The public key is then hashed to create your Bitcoin address.

The relationship is one-way: you can derive the public key from a private key, but you cannot derive the private key from a public key.

Is it safe to use custom Bitcoin addresses?

Yes, custom vanity Bitcoin addresses are just as secure as regular Bitcoin addresses when properly generated. The cryptographic security remains the same, regardless of what characters appear at the beginning of the address.

However, security depends on how the private key is generated and handled:

Security Best Practices:
  • Always move funds to a new address after receiving your vanity address
  • Use a hardware wallet for long-term storage
  • Never share your private key with anyone
  • Keep backup copies of your private keys in secure locations

Vanity Addresses

What is a Bitcoin vanity address?

A Bitcoin vanity address is a personalized address that contains a specific pattern or readable text, usually at the beginning. Instead of a completely random string like "1A37fDs9cK...", you could have something personalized like "1Bitcoin..." or "1John..." or "1Love...".

These addresses are fully functional and work exactly the same as standard Bitcoin addresses, but they make your address more recognizable and memorable.

Why would I want a vanity address?

There are several benefits to having a vanity address:

  • Branding: Businesses can use addresses that start with their name or brand
  • Memorability: Easier to remember and recognize your own addresses
  • Verification: Helps recipients verify they're sending to the correct address
  • Uniqueness: Stands out from random addresses in wallets or on block explorers
  • Donation visibility: Makes donation addresses more trustworthy and recognizable
What characters can I use in my vanity address?

Bitcoin addresses use Base58 encoding, which includes uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers, but excludes some characters that might be confused with others:

  • All numbers except 0 (zero)
  • All uppercase letters except O (capital o)
  • All lowercase letters except l (lowercase L)

The characters 0 (zero), O (capital o), I (capital i), and l (lowercase L) are excluded to prevent visual confusion.

Additionally, Bitcoin addresses always start with the number 1 for legacy addresses, so your vanity part comes after this first character.

Can I create a vanity address myself?

Yes, you can create vanity addresses using free software tools like "Vanitygen" or "VanitySearch", but there are significant limitations:

  • The process is extremely computationally intensive, especially for longer prefixes
  • A standard computer might take days or months to find addresses with 6+ character patterns
  • You need technical knowledge to use these tools correctly and securely

Our service uses optimized algorithms and specialized hardware to generate vanity addresses much faster than a typical personal computer.

Pricing Information

How much does a vanity address cost?

Our pricing is based on the length of the vanity pattern you request, as longer patterns require exponentially more computational resources:

Pattern Length Price Approximate Time
1-3 characters Free Minutes
4 characters 0.001 BTC Hours
5 characters 0.0015 BTC Hours
6 characters 0.0043 BTC 1-2 Days
7 characters 0.0217 BTC 3-5 Days
8 characters 0.1091 BTC 1-2 Weeks

The exponential increase in price reflects the computational difficulty - each additional character makes the address approximately 58 times harder to find.

Why are longer prefixes so much more expensive?

Finding a Bitcoin address with a specific prefix is a brute-force process that requires generating and checking millions or billions of addresses until one matches your requested pattern.

Each additional character in your prefix increases the search space by a factor of approximately 58 (the number of possible characters in Bitcoin's Base58 encoding). This creates an exponential increase in the computational resources required:

  • A 4-character prefix requires checking about 58⁴ = 11.3 million possibilities
  • A 5-character prefix requires checking about 58⁵ = 656 million possibilities
  • A 6-character prefix requires checking about 58⁶ = 38 billion possibilities
  • A 7-character prefix requires checking about 58⁷ = 2.2 trillion possibilities
  • An 8-character prefix requires checking about 58⁸ = 128 trillion possibilities

The pricing reflects the electrical costs, hardware depreciation, and time required to perform these computations.

Do you offer refunds?

Due to the nature of our service, we cannot offer refunds after the generation process has started. Bitcoin transactions are irreversible, and the computational resources are already being utilized once we begin searching for your vanity address.

However, if we are unable to generate your requested vanity address for any technical reason, we will contact you to offer an alternative or a refund.

Security Concerns

How do I know you won't keep my private key?

Trust and security are fundamental to our service. Here's how we protect your keys:

  • Private keys are generated in memory and never stored in our database
  • Keys are immediately sent to your email and then purged from our systems
  • Our email delivery system uses encrypted connections
Important Security Recommendation: For maximum security, we recommend immediately transferring any funds received at your vanity address to a new address that you've generated with your own wallet software. This eliminates any theoretical risk related to the generation process.
Is my email address secure?

We take the security of your personal information seriously:

  • Email addresses are stored temporarily for service delivery only
  • We delete email addresses 7 days after completing your request
  • We never sell or share your email address with third parties
  • Our database is protected by multiple security layers

For more details, please review our Privacy Policy.

Are vanity addresses less secure than regular addresses?

No, vanity addresses are cryptographically identical to regular Bitcoin addresses. The security of Bitcoin addresses comes from the underlying private key, not from the address format itself.

However, there is one theoretical security consideration: if someone knows you're looking for a specific vanity pattern, they could also try to generate the same pattern. For this reason, we recommend:

  • Using a reputable service (like ours) that securely delivers private keys
  • Transferring funds to a new address after receiving your vanity address and private key
  • Using hardware wallets or cold storage for significant amounts

Technical Details

How are vanity addresses generated?

Vanity addresses are generated through a brute-force process:

  1. Random private keys are generated
  2. The corresponding public key is derived from each private key
  3. The public key is hashed to create a Bitcoin address
  4. The address is checked to see if it matches the requested pattern
  5. This process repeats until a match is found

Our system uses specialized hardware and optimized algorithms to perform this process much faster than a typical computer.

What format are the private keys delivered in?

We deliver private keys in both Wallet Import Format (WIF) and hexadecimal format. This ensures compatibility with virtually all Bitcoin wallets:

  • WIF format: Begins with "5" or "K"/"L" (for compressed keys), e.g., 5KJvsngHeMpm884wtkJNzQGaCErckhHJBGFsvd3VyK5qMZXj3hS
  • Hexadecimal format: 64-character string, e.g., c4bbcb1fbec99d65bf59d85c8cb62ee2db963f0fe106f483d9afa73bd4e39a8a

We also provide detailed instructions on how to import these keys into popular wallet software.

Can I request specific characters at certain positions?

Currently, our service only supports vanity patterns at the beginning of addresses (right after the "1" prefix). Bitcoin's cryptographic design makes it practically impossible to generate addresses with patterns at specific positions other than the beginning.

For example, we can generate:

  • 1Bitcoin... ✓
  • 1ABC... ✓

But we cannot generate:

  • 1...Bitcoin... ✗
  • 1...ABC... ✗
  • 1...ABC...XYZ... ✗

This is a mathematical limitation of how Bitcoin addresses are created, not a limitation of our service.

Orders & Delivery

How long does it take to receive my vanity address?

Delivery time depends on the length of your requested pattern:

  • 1-3 characters: Usually within minutes to a few hours
  • 4-5 characters: Typically within 24 hours
  • 6 characters: Usually within 1-2 days
  • 7 characters: Can take 3-5 days
  • 8 characters: May take 1-2 weeks

These are estimates and actual times may vary depending on system load and the specific pattern requested. Some character combinations may be found more quickly than others due to the random nature of the process.

What if I don't receive my email?

If you haven't received your email within the expected timeframe:

  1. Check your spam or junk folder first
  2. Verify that you entered your email address correctly
  3. Contact our support team at [email protected]

When contacting support, please include:

  • The vanity pattern you requested
  • The email address you used
  • The date of your order
  • Payment transaction ID (if applicable)
How many addresses can I generate?

To prevent abuse and ensure quality service:

  • Each email address is limited to 5 requests per 24-hour period
  • Free requests (1-3 characters) count toward this limit
  • Paid requests (4+ characters) also count toward this limit

If you need to generate a larger number of vanity addresses, please contact us at [email protected] for custom arrangements.
